I have wanted to add a couple pieces of poetry that I did as an undergraduate in the early 1990's. I hope you all enjoy them:
Water Guns
The phone rang like
a funeral bell.
I picked it up,
a voice that I hadn't heard in months
was on the other end.
I only remember a few words,
"Where ..... Panama,
It was Jungle Training."
After your twelfth summer,
you have two routes.
One that requires money,
and one that requires a gun & duty.
I was fortunate to have money,
four of my friends weren't.
Some children love water guns.
But what about the children in
Bosnia, Kuwait, and Korea?
We loved our water Guns,
but I hope we don't have to use them now!
D & D
We start together,
and think as one.
As time wears on like an endless day,
we go to the same places,
have the same friends.
At times,
I have been scolded for something's that,
I didn't do.
The banana peal at the party you didn't attend
But the same thing has happened to you.
By fall, we have been shaped differently,
-you with your dirty and ripped shirt,
-me with my clean and straight one.
The hobbies that I have started,
you have tried to conquer,
Tecking,
stamps,
and metal.
Ah, but you haven't vanquished my coins.
By the end of the 13th summer,
we have become so different, yet so simular.
Our Arguments,
seem to have evaporated,
but are not yet gone,
After the 2,000 mi.,
you seem not such a burden as before.
Now that I am one,
two wasn't so bad.
After all.
